Thank you to everyone that reached out to their U.S. Senators! The Senate Dear Colleague letter was signed by 21 U.S. Senators and asked Senate Appropriators for funding beyond what the President requested in his FY 2015 budget for RHYA and EHCY. The President asked for $116 million for the Runaway and Homeless Youth Act (RHYA) (which includes $2 million for a study) and $65 million for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY).
This letter received all of these signatures because you took the time to reach out to your U.S. Senators. Thank you for working with us!
We are also grateful for the collaboration with and hard work of our partners, the National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth and True Colors Fund.
Thank your U.S. Representatives—Build Stronger Relationships with Your U.S. Representatives
If one (or two or three) of your U.S. Representatives signed a Dear Colleague letter, either the House letter or Senate letter, please take a moment to thank them. You can either call, email, or send a letter. I have found that it is powerful for members and staff to receive thank you notes from young people themselves.

After you extend a hearty “THANK YOU” please take a minute and email me to tell me that you sent a thank you—firstname.lastname@example.org. It is helpful for me to know how much contact folks are getting from constituents, because it determines how much I push and how much I encourage congressional staff to push too.
