Mayor schedules next Project Homeless Connect in Golden Gate Park

Mayor Gavin Newsom continues to negotiate a deal for land to house a permanent resource center for homeless San Franciscans. Meanwhile, the occasional Project Homeless Connect event will just have to make do.

Newsom has scheduled the next event, where thousands of homeless residents can get free medical and jobs assistance services, for Sept. 29 in Golden Gate Park. Last year, the Golden Gate Park Homeless Connect served almost 200 individuals living in and around the Golden Gate Park area, approximately 50 percent of whom were younger than 30, according to the Department of Public Health.

This year’s Golden Gate Park event returns in partnership with the Haight-Ashbury Free Clinic, the Homeless Youth Alliance and Blue Shield of California. Planners intend to assist approximately 500 individuals. Services and programs for this event will include medical, dental, HIV testing, legal services and Healthy San Francisco.
